Inverell is situated in the New England North West region of New South Wales and is a thriving commercial and service centre, with a local population of 16,075 and a district population of 18,000.
Nestled in a picturesque valley beside the Macintyre River, you will find us on the Gwydir Highway, linking the busy New England and Newell Highways.
The Inverell district is in a fertile agricultural region which promotes a wide range of crops, including wheat, barley, oars, sorghum, wine grapes and maize. There are also some mining activities with tin, sapphires, zircons and diamonds (mainly industrial) being found.
Inverell is known as the 'Sapphire City' because of the sapphires that found throughout the local district, contributing to a major part of Australia's sapphire production.
Copeton Dam, the regions main water supply, was completed in 1976. While being smaller than Sydney Harbour, it holds nearly 2 times the capacity pr Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour). The Inland Fishing Festival is held there every year.
